VinayakuduTypical love story with a 'fatty' hero

Premkumar Patra, who had produced 'Aa Naluguru' earlier, earned a good name for choosing a different message-oriented subject. In fact, he earned laurels for choosing an off beat subject for his film. After giving a nice movie with a good message, the same producer changed his track and chose a love subject for his next film. Though it is a love story, Premkumar showed the difference that love did not arise only between a cute couple and even those who was fat and who is black could also fall in love and it was the soul which is very important than the bodily beauty. He introduced Sai Kiran Adivi as director.

Karthik (Krishnudu) comes all the way from Rajole in East Godavari district to Hyderabad in search of a job in a company. He stays with his sister (Satyakrishnan). Kalpana (Sonia) is an ultra modern girl. She had independent views and like several urban girls, she too had lots of freedom in her house. She works in an Advertisement Agency, which prepare visuals and other ads for various clients. Karthik also joins the same firm in creative department. The basic quality in Karthik is that he has a positive mind. He always keeps himself happy. He is straightforward and have no inhibition. As a whole he has a typical childish mentality. Karthik falls in love with Kalpana but could not express it to her. Meanwhile, Kalpana's parents look for an alliance to her and the guy Rajeev works in Infosys and earns Rs 12 lakh per annum. Moreover his family background is also good. But Kalpana demands some time to take a decision on marriage. Meanwhile, her parents leave for the US for about six months. So, Kalpana shifts to her friend Sandhya's (Poonam Bajwa) apartment, which is incidentally where Karthik stays. Once during a gathering there is a talk about some views and Karthik opposes pre marital sex. Kalpana questions him why it is wrong. Innocently, Karthik asks her whether she is ready for such thing. This widens the gap between them. Later, Kalpana meets Rajeev and after a couple of days they meet at Necklace Road in the night and talking to each other. When some police came on night patrolling, Rajeev manages the police by giving Rs 1,000. This irks Kalpana as the incident made her guilty before the police and Rajeev's action amounts to admission of Kalpana a prostitute. Kalpana bids good bye to his friendship and alliance and starts getting attracted towards Karthik because of his innocence. However, on one occasion, Kalpana chides Karthik as 'Bandodu' (fatty). So Karthik decides to maintain distance and cuts his friendship with her. He even makes attempts to become slim, only to land in hospital. Kalpana realizes that she committed a mistake and on her father's advice apologises to Karthik and the film ends on a happy note.

PLUS:

Director Saikiran Adivi, though a novice, did a nice job and he followed his mentor Sekhar Kammula in narrating the movie and most of the scenes reminds us of Sekhar Kammula's film. It appears that he got inspired with the heroine's role in 'Anand' and almost carved Kalpana's role on the same lines in a dominating way. Especially the storyline he chose to narrate is quite different. The fact is that a fatty too could fall in love and a blacky too had some feelings. This is the highlight of the movie. The entire film revolves around four roles. Krishnudu who was playing small time roles got a good break as hero with this film and he too proved his performance capabilities well. Sonia, who proved her acting talents as 'Sravs' in 'Happy Days' also did a nice job in the film. Poonam Bajwa as the heroine's buddy also did a nice job. Music by Sam Prasanna is okay. The director who realised that a duet between the hero and heroine is impossible avoided songs in the film. But the re-recording was good and many scenes were elevated because of music. Cinematography is by PG Vinda is adequate. The montage and bit songs that come in the backdrop are good in literary values.

VinayakuduMINUS:

Though the film is okay as a whole, the narration is very slow. That is the reason the film appears slow. The audiences feel bored due to the slow narration. Another problem with the film is the poor comedy. The hero character itself is woven with comedy and hence there is no separate comedy track in the film. Another draw back in the film is that the entire film moves around only four characters and one or two characters just come and vanish. The audiences had to patiently watch those figures. Screenplay is nagging in some scenes. But for a few lapses the film has nothing much to feel bad.

REMARKS:

The film has nothing much to talk about and the commercial aspects in the film are completely missing. As a result, the film may not be commercially viable. The film might run well in 'A' centres. With the absence of mass elements in the film, the film may not attract the mass or family audiences. Moreover, with the recession in software industry, a film made on corporate companies' employees may not gel well with the audiences. Let us wait and watch how far the film would fare well these days.
