tamannaNot very unique but worth watching

It is well aware that AVM Productions is a prestigious banner, and an upcoming actress like Tamanna bagging a chance in such a big banner is a boon. Moreover, she was cast opposite a star hero like Suriya. This is the 174th movie on the banner. A cinematographer turned director KV Anand for the first time wielded the megaphone for the movie. Leave alone the story and the scenes that were copied from Hollywood blockbusters like “Blood Diamond, Catch me If you can, Maria Full of Grace”, the director KV Anand made the audiences to sit tight in their seats from the beginning till the end. In fact, he penned the story with a perfect research and gave several tips to the smugglers in how many ways one could smuggle diamonds, heroin and other narcotics. Above all, the dedication of the hero Suriya in the film is enough. Besides all these, Tamanna’s gorgeous looks and the perfect chemistry that worked out between Suriya and Tamanna would be a feat to the eyes of the audiences.

Deva (Suriya) completes his MSc in computers. His father and Doss (Prabhu) work together and used to do illegal business like smuggling. Unfortunately Deva’s father dies in an encounter and he believes that Doss is his godfather. With all his knowledge, he helps Doss in transporting contraband articles from one country to the other. However, Kamalesh (Akashdeep), who wants to be a smuggling king, dares Doss. Because of the friendship with Kamalesh’s father, Doss leaves him. Kamalesh start troubling Deva and Doss by informing police about several deals.

But Doss keep escaping with the help of Deva. At this juncture, Deva finds that one Chitti (Jagan), who joined their gang some time ago was responsible for all this and it was Kamalesh who planted him in the gang to work as a covert. Unfortunately, Chitti dies in one of the operations to smuggle narcotics. Later, Kamalesh’s cruelty takes the toll in the form of Doss. This irks Deva and he joins the customs authorities. With the help of Chitti’s sister and his lover Deva plants camera and microphone in Kamalesh’s house through which the customs officer (Ponvannan) know the dealings of Kamalesh. Like this Deva helps them in catching huge amount of narcotics and other smuggled goods. The film ends with Deva taking revenge against Kamalesh for all the misdeeds he did against his kith and kin.

PERFORMANCE:

As far as Suriya, he did an excellent job. In fact, it is his dedication, hard work, sincerity to make the film a big hit, made the film worth watching. Sans Suriya, the film has nothing. Each and every frame in the film has his presence and he gave a fantastic performance. He did complete justice to his role. His character has different shades like a student, lover, knowledgeable person, smuggler and fighter. He also involved himself well in sentiment scenes. Tamanna appeared quite gorgeous in the film in general and the songs in particular. With no exposure of glamour, she made the audiences keep their eyes glued to the screen without giving them a scope to go out with a feel that the songs are bore. Akashdeep failed as villain as he could not change his expression in any of the scenes and was a blank face. Even he is not flexible in showing his body language at least. He is the only minus point in the film. Prabhu appeared in a nice character and did justice to his role,

tamannaTECHNICAL:

Behind the screen, the first to be complimented is the cinematographer MS Prabhu. With the director KV Anand himself a good cinematographer, he was able to guide the cameraman well resulting the final output in an excellent manner. Especially, the way the cameraman captured the beauty of South Africa, Nairobia, Namibia and other foreign locales is really worth watching. All the locations are afresh and never before seen on the Telugu screen. He amazingly shot the chase scenes in foreign locales and they remind the audiences of chases in Hollywood movies.

Harris Jayaraj’s music is just okay. None of the songs were tuned well. However, his prowess could be seen in the re-recording, especially in background score. Though none of the songs are good to listen and worth foot-tapping, the choreography is good. The camera captured the beauty of locales and the chemistry between the hero and heroine also worked well. Lyrics by Bhuvanachandra had lot of literary values but are not appealing. Dialogues by Sriramakrishna are okay in parts. Kanal Kannan’s action choreography appeared a little over. But is okay for a film like ‘Veedokkade’.

ANALYSIS:

Are you interested in action movies and don’t look for logics, this movie is a perfect fit for you. Suriya’s performance, Tamanna’s glamour, MS Prabhu’s camera work are adequate to satiate your quest to watch a good film with action backdrop. With none of the Telugu movies that hit the screen during this week earning a hit talk, this film, though a dubbed version could go well as it has several elements that could attract the youth and mass audiences.
