suryaThe attachment between a father and son

Several films had come up on the screen with father and son and their intimate relationship. Gautham Menon, who is known for moulding his individual thoughts impressively on the screen, once again came out with a brilliant story. Moreover, it appears as he penned a story of his own out of his personal life. The lot of attachment he had with his father and his untimely death leaving a big void in his life was portrayed on the screen. However, he mixed the love part in the middle which ate the major portion of the film leaving no scope to really explain the intimacy between the father and son.

The film starts with Krishnan's (Surya) death and Surya (Surya) on a mission to rescue a girl. The entire film was narrated in flashback episodes in parts. As the memories run the story unwinds. Krishnan (Surya) and Malini (Simran) had a love marriage. They have two children, Surya (Surya) and a daughter. Surya could not complete mechanical engineering. However during his return journey from college he comes across Meghana (Sameera Reddy) and falls in love with her. Though he proposes to herm Meghana refuses saying she doesn't believe in love at first sight. However, Surya impresses her by going to her house only to learn that she is leaving for the US for post-graduation. Krishna also leaves for the US and meets her at Berkeley University. Meghana surprised at his commitment and after some time she accepts his love. But, Meghana dies in a blast. Surya gets addicted to vices and on his parents' advice leaves home. Surya goes to Kashmir and then move to Delhi where he rescues a boy and get a bravery award. Another girl called Priya (Divya Spandana) proposes to Surya. Later Surya joins the Army and becomes a Major. Krishnan suffers throat cancer and dies. After his return, Surya cremates Krishnan, though his memories continue to haunt him. Malini consoles him saying that life has to go on whether someone is there with us or not.

PERFORMANCE:

Surya gave an excellent performance in both the roles. He sported a lean body and appeared too old as father. At the same time, he gave a fresh and tender appearance as an 17-year-old son first and then with a six-pack body. He is good at showing various kinds of emotions. He excelled in the role of father and as a depressed lover. Sameera Reddy is good in the role without going for regular exposure of glamour. She is decent as a software engineer. Divya Spandana had a look a girl next-door and played well in the role of Surya's childhood friend. Simran is at her beset in Surya's mother role.

suryaTECHNICAL:

The director's used montage shots to portray the love of Krishnan are really good and impressive. Camera work by Ratnavelu is excellent. Some of the scenes were stretched especially after the death of the heroine beyond imagination and it tested the patience of audiences. The classic approach in narrating the film forced to miss the actual ingredients of the story, the attachment between the father and son. The screenplay turned static at times. Songs scored by Harris Jayaraj were just okay background score is also okay in parts.

REMARKS:

A major part of the film was shot in America, while some scenes related to military episodes were shot in Dehradun. The production values of Oscar Films are adequate. As an artiste, Surya is at his best all through the film. But for him, the film has nothing much to boast of. He showed excellent variation in both the characters all through the film. Oscar Films had brought our several hit films and SVR Media dubbed some of them.
