Prabhas fails to impress

Adityaram Movies had produced several successful and hit films like ‘Sandade Sandadi, Khushi Khushigaa and Swagatham’ on its banner and of late, it teamed up with Puri Jagannath for bringing out a set of films. With no notable hits to his credit, Prabhas teamed up with Puri Jagannath, who gave blockbusters like ‘Pokiri, Desamuduru, Chiruta’ and very recently ‘Neninthe’ for ‘Ek Niranjan’. Puri Jagannath too tried hard to give a hit to Prabhas, as their earlier combination, ‘Bujjigadu’ failed to make a mark. The film was made with a huge budget and with all kinds of commercial elements. Despite many positive aspects, Prabhas failed to convince the audiences in general with his performance to the expected level.

STORY:

Niranjan @ Chotu (Prabhas) is the younger son of a poor family. A drunkard (Makarand Deshpande), who used to steal children and eke out living by sending them for begging, lifts Niranjan when he was a child for the same purpose. Later, Chotu grew up and he himself get that drunkard arrested. When the police officer gives him a rupee, Chotu makes it a profession called ‘Bounty Hunter’. He catches the accused in the police records and gets money from the police. Johny (Sonu Sood) is a mafia leader and he maintains a gang. Once he accepts to kill a minister (Pruthvi) at the instance of his brother (Posani Krishnamurali) and sends Kailash (Mukuldev) and Mani for the purpose. However, the minister’s brother himself kills him but the police suspect Kailash as the killer and arrest him. Chotu is in search of Mani and in the process of catching him, he accidentally meets Sameera (Kangana Ranaut), a guitar teacher and loses his heart. He catches Mani and hands him over to police. Mani latter helps Kailash to escape. In fact, Kailash is the brother of Chotu. However, Chotu doesn’t know that and the DGP (Chalapati Rao) tells him to catch Kailash for a huge remuneration. Mani also gets released from jail and finds Sameera became a good friend of Chotu. As Mani and Kailash know well that Johny would kill them, they somehow manage and escape to Hong Kong. On coming to know that Sameera is in Hong Kong, Chotu also leaves for Hong Kong in search of her and incidentally finds Kailash and catches him. Soon, he realises that Kailash is an innocent and his life is very valuable. Meanwhile, Johny too reaches Hong Kong and catches Mani and Sameera. Keeping them as hostages, Johny tries to bargain with Chotu to hand over Kailash in exchange of Sameera. But, Chotu teaches a lesson to Johny and takes away Sameera and Kailash and proves the latter’s innocence and gets him acquitted in the minister’s murder case. The film ends on a happy note with a voice-over that Niranjan @ Chotu united with his parents.

PLUS:

The action scenes, the director’s taking of scenes to mesmerise the mass audiences, the scenes shot in Hong Kong are the highlights of the movie. Prabhas showed good ease with his six-foot tall body and six-pack macho body in action scenes. All the action scenes are quite convincing. Moreover, the picturisation of the action scenes are also very impressive and proves the director’s ability to convince the mass audiences. Kangana Ranaut gave a fresh look to the screen. However, she had very less scope to perform in the film. Sonu Sood, who gave a brilliant performance in ‘Arundhati’ once again gave his best as a villain, with typical mentality, a sadist and perverted villain. The characterisation of villain is laudable. Other artistes including Makarand Deshpande, Mukuldev, Brahmaji, Tanikella Bharani and others did their best. Camera work by Sham K Naidu is okay, while editing by MR Varma is good in parts, especially in songs. Music by Manisharma is also normal and not so great, while choreography of songs is okay in a couple of songs. The title song failed to impress the audience despite good literary values.

MINUS:

But for those action scenes, there is nothing the movie could offer. Kangana is really wasted in the film as the director failed to explore her glamour on the screen. Especially the chemistry between the hero and heroine did not match properly. The separate comedy track with Brahmanandam, Ali, Junior Relangi and Abhinayasri, failed to click. However, Venumadhav tried his best to tickle the funny bone of audiences. The screenplay, which is expected to be very strong in Puri Jagannath’s films, was quite poor in this film. It is very surprising how anyone could go abroad without any hindrance whenever he/she wants. Many scenes in the film are quite dramatic. Especially, how the hero and villain moves very easily in a foreign country by wielding revolvers and fire arms so casually. Many scenes in the foreign shoot were far behind the logic and unconvincing.

REMARKS:

Prabhas failed to impress the audiences in any of the scene and he should be more cautious in sentiment scenes and in dialogue modulation. Puri Jagannath, once again floundered while making a film with Prabhas, as he concentrated mostly to mould the story to suit the body language of the hero and keeping the mass audiences in view and committed many mistakes. Though the film might go well with mass audiences to some extent, the film’s commercial success is doubtful in the wake of these illogical scenes. The film may run at above average level in B, C centres but its success in city is a big question.
