An avoidable film

In Hindi, the word 'Masth' means sumptuous or more than adequate. Director SV Krishna Reddy, a popular name in family subjects and good comedy entertainers, completely spoiled his image by bringing out a mock entertainer. It neither entertained the audiences or had a clear message on a specific subject. Many of the scenes are absurd and have no logic. It is quite unbelievable to say that the film was directed by a seasoned director like SVK. Moreover, it is surprising how a corporate firm like Zee Motion Pictures accepted the subject which has no substance and looks like a combination of some comedy skits sans logic.

Siva (Sivaji), Sreenu (Srinivasa Reddy) and Gopi (Ali) are good friends. While Siva and Sreenu, who aspire to become a model and singer, become blind and dumb respectively, they lead their life with the help of Gopi, who ekes out living as an LIC agent. They get shelter in the house of Brahmam (Brahmanandam). One day, they come across Anupama (Anchal), a software professional, who was trying to escape from the clutches of a local goon Bhujangam, who was after her saying that he is in love with her. The trio try their best and pretend that they are normal by hiding their disabilities. After few days, Anupama comes to know about it and decides to help them as she learns that surgery could make them normal. She advises them to take the government's help and get themselves operated upon. Though Siva and Sreenu fall in love with Anupama, Gopi convinces Sreenu to drop and Siva decides to propose her before surgery. But, Anupama reveals her flashback and her love story. Siva drops his idea to propose to unite Anupama and Balaji. After a sequence of events, Bhujangam finds Anupama and he too accepts her love, as Balaji and Siva save him from the jaws of death.

PERFORMANCE:

Sivaji, who is settling his life as a hero with a couple of successes, tried his best to live in the role of a visually challenged, but he could not convince the audiences because of the inefficient handling of the character and poor movement of the story. Srinivasa Reddy too could not provide adequate comedy as his character was suppressed because of the same reason. A seasoned comedian and hero like Ali too failed to give any substantial performance. Anchal Sabharwal, a look alike of Sindhu Tulani in some angles, resorted to skin show during songs. The person who played the villain is the only solace. However, as per the demand of the story, the villain too was forced to do comedy villainy making his role a laughing stock. MS Narayana and Brahmanandam are in their usual best in trying to give some comedy. Sivaji is just okay in his role with one song with the heroine.

TECHNICAL:

The dubbing is quite poor as lip moment and body language did not sync in any given scene. Camera work by Srinivasa Reddy is average. Nagireddy should have edited several scenes mercilessly as there are several non-sense scenes and have no relevance and logic. Music by Krishna Reddy is atrocious and the placement of songs is also bad. The director's expertise in bringing out a healthy comedy was almost gone with the wind and it appeared that he indicated that time had come to hang his boots.

ANALYSIS

The Telugu audiences are after SV Krishna Reddy's films once, as he used to direct films which are totally meant for family audiences and a good subject and clean entertainment. However, he lost the shine in recent times with most of his films getting rejected. Though he got an opportunity in the form of Zee Films, he could not make use of it suitably. As a whole the film could be easily avoided.
