dronaNithin may not be in a position to smile

Nayanatara created ripples in the film industry by sporting a bikini sometime ago and this had prompted many others to tread the path to resort to cleavage show to woo the youth and mass audiences. Now it is the turn of Priyamani, who had so far sported the image of a family girl. By wearing revealing dress, she gave a hint to the producers that she was ready to play glam doll roles too in her future projects. Moreover, Nithin, who had no notable hits to his credit in the recent past, banked heavily on the heroine, for bagging a hit talk.

Drona (Nithin) is the son of a sincere police officer (Mukhesh Rushi). He gets kidnapped by some ultras led by one Sarkar (Kelly Dorge), who train the kids in robberies and other such anti-social works. Of them, Drona proved a little more intelligent and Sarkar tells him that they moulded him and trained him in such a way to commit a robbery. Sarkar's lifetime ambition is to rob the Nizam's jewellery and settle in Dubai. Sarkar promises that he would free all the boys who were kidnapped and were given training in the art of robbery once Drona could get the jewels. Using sophisticated laptaps and other gadgets, Drona, his childhood friend Bose, rob the jewellery which was kept in an exhibition.

However, Sarkar hatches a crooked plan to kill all the boys instead of releasing them. Realising this, Drona tells Bose to steal the jewellery from Sarkar and keep it in a secret place. But another friend who was staying with them reveals the secret and the trainer Danny (Bob Antony) spoils their plan. But, Drona manages to save as many boys and return to Hyderabad. He manages to settle with his parents, of course, without revealing his identity. However, a girl called Indu (Priyamani), who stays in their neighbourhood detects that he is none other than Drona, but the latter pleads with Indu not to reveal his identity. Accidentally, Indu reveals the secret and when the entire family enjoy the moment. However, their happiness turns shortlived as Sarkar passes information to the police that Drona is the person who robbed the Nizam's jewellery.

Police arrest him, but Drona reveals the truth and tells his father under what circumstances he committed the crime. In order to bring the actual culprits to the book, Drona's father manages his escape in a kidnap drama and in the climax, Drona teaches a lesson to Sarkar and hands him over to the police. He also hands over the Nizam's jewels and turns an approver. The film ends on a happy note.

PERFORMANCE:

Nithin is okay as an action hero. He showed perfect ease in action sequences, but failed to emote well in sentiment scenes. He still needs to improve his body language and in showing expressions. Priyamani who had a clean image so far, showed a drastic change in her attitude by wearing a bikini in a song. She also looked quite hot in a couple of other songs as well, including a rain song with revealing costumes.

Kelly Dorge is good as a villain and Bob Antony made his presence on a Telugu screen after a long gap. Though he appeared physically strong, his skin looked like ageing skin in close up shots. Mukhesh Rushi failed to give a honest performance, but Sita is just okay. Sunil appeared in a couple of scenes but failed to tickle the funny bone. Venumadhav too failed to bring smile on the face of audiences and the comedy track shot on him has nothing to do with the story.

Dialogues by Harshavardhan too are just so so and many of them lacked the necessary punch. Camera work by Bhupati is average. Action scenes choreographed by Selvam are just okay. The opening shots picturised on the hero appeared too cinematic, with lot of gimmicks on his mobike. As far as music, only a couple of songs are foot-tapping and others are not good even to listen. However, the director and producer made the audiences sit tight in their seats without going out during songs, by giving revealing costumes to the heroine. The director made good attempt to run the film with different elements like action, love and family sentiment. But in the absence of a gripping screenplay, many scenes in the film lacked depth.

ANALYSIS:

Those who go to the theatre by watching the trailers or the revealing costumes of Priyamani, would be definitely disappointed as she appeared hot only in a couple of songs. The film reminds the audiences of old films like 'Rakshasudu' of Chiranjeevi, 'Kondaveeti Simham' of the late NT Rama Rao, where the hero gets training in a lonely island. Despite projecting the heroine in a bikini, Nithin may not be in a position to smile as the film earned an average talk on the first day.
