bladeA hilarious comedy again from Naresh

Naresh, son of EVV Satyanarayana, entered the film industry with 'Allari'. His sense of comedy is excellent and it proved the popular maxim 'A flower that blossomed with instant fragrance' (Puvvu Puttagane Parimalinchinatlu). Though he tried his hand to do different films like 'Nenu' and 'Pranam', he realised that the audiences are expecting him in comedy hero roles. Moreover, there was a big talk that 'Allari' Naresh filled the gap left by Rajendra Prasad, who played in many entertainment-based films. So he is now choosing such roles to tickle the funny bone of the audiences.

Blade Babji (Allari Naresh) is a pickpocket. He had his own gang of friends (Ruthika, Harshavardhan and Qayyum) who together resort to petty crimes. They stay in Rajahmundry. He enjoys his life in a slum along with others. Suddenly, the landlord of the area (Jeeva) comes there and orders everyone to vacate the place as he was planning to sell it off to some builder. Upon questioning, he reveals that the land would fetch Rs 4 crore. Blade Babji pleads with the builder to give him three months' time to bring the money. In order to earn the money, he decides to do something which is extraordinary as the amount is not in thousands or lakhs but in crores. He and his gang shift to Vizag and chalks out a plan to rob a bank. They execute the plan perfectly and grab the necessary money. While escaping from the place, Blade Babji safely keep the money in a building which is under construction. However, he could not return to the place for about a month. By the time he returns, the building was complete and to his surprise, it is the police commissionerate. Leave alone robbing the money, entry into the building itself is almost impossible for a pick-pocket like Blade Babji. At this juncture, he learns that a new sub-inspector called Krishna Manohar (Srinivasa Reddy) is going to take charge that day. Babji manages to kidnap him and goes to the commissionerate as Krishna Manohar. He was able to manage everything and finally gets close to the place where he had hidden the money. He gets shocked as he could not find the money at that place and could trace only an empty bag. However, with all his criminal knowledge and the newly got police sub-inspector job, he investigates and secures back the money to emerge a winner in the climax.

PLUS:

It is Allari Naresh all the way. He took the entire responsibility on his shoulders and made the film a hit. His perfect comedy timing, excellent body language and shrewd histrionics made the film watchable. Especially, Naresh excelled in the parody scenes of 'Pokiri' of Maheshbabu and 'Tammudu' of Pawan Kalyan. Next comes Ruthika, who stole the show with her glamour and acting skills. The director of the film, Devi Prasad, who had earlier brought out not so impressive films like 'Aaduthu… Paduthu…' and 'Leelamahal Centre', improved himself by emulating EVV and bagged a hit in the form of a comedy movie. Especially the last 20 minutes are quite hilarious. Other assets and plus points in the film is the performance by Brahmanandam, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam and Krishna Bhagawan. Dialogues by Vegesna Satish were quite apt and are very good in parts. Above all, the director's ability in reaping situational comedy needs a compliment.

MINUS:

Heroine Sayali Bhagat is the major minus point in the movie. She neither has good look nor could perform well. However, she seems to be ready to expose to any extent as she went overboard in some romantic scenes. Even music by Koti is not very impressive. Above all, most of the scenes were beyond logic. Though the director looked to entertain the audiences, he forgot to concentrate on establishing certain scenes. One more notable point in the film is that the audiences could notice repetition of some scenes in some old films like 'Kishkindakanda, Pattukondi Chooddam, Ali Baba Aradozen Dongalu' and other such films. The director should have avoided lifting of these scenes straight and get them reenacted.

blade babjiREMARKS:

If you go too deep, the film resembled a Hollywood flick 'Blue Streak' directed by Les Mayfield with Martin Lawrence, Luke Wilson, Peter Greene in the lead roles. Some scenes were lifted from a Korean film 'Can't Live Without Robbery'. For Telugu audiences, film watching is just a time-pass and many of them don't look for gripping story, sentiment or too much novelty. Keeping this in mind, the director brought out a nice comedy flick. Despite several films hitting the screen, comedy films have their own market and entertainment based films will have minimum guarantee in their saleability. This was once again proved with Blade Babji. If you don't look for logic and just enjoy the film with a hearty laugh for two hours, Blade Babji is a must watch film. Though the film may not go very well in 'A' centres (underline very well, as it will be liked by one and all) the film would be a big hit in 'B' and 'C' centres. Especially with not big Telugu hits in the recent past, 'Blade Babji' could be given a hit certificate.
