banamThe arrow that lacks the sharpness

The Telugu film industry has the tradition of introducing the sons and daughters of stars into the films. It also has another tradition of many film artistes turning into politicians and many of them held various positions as MLAs, MPs, ministers and also the chief minister. As the time pass by, the trend reversed and the politicians started turning artistes now and then. Going a step ahead, former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s brother Ramamurthy Naidu introduced his son Nara Rohit as hero. Though not acting is in his blood, Rohit stood to the expectations and has a handsome figure unlike many other heroes who do not have minimum qualifications to be a hero.

Bhagat (Nara Rohit) is the son of a Naxalite (Sayaji Shinde). Bhagat leads the life of an orphan as the police were on a manhunt for his father. He somehow pursues his studies and prepares for the Group I exams to become an IPS officer. He completes the preliminaries successfully and gets ready for main exams. At this juncture, Bhagat’s father surrenders to the police and joins the mainstream. Once Bhagat comes across a young girl, Subba Lakshmi (Vedika) at a railway station. He learns that she got married the earlier day but she was deserted by her in-laws as her father failed to pay the dowry. On enquiry, Bhagat comes to know that her father died of heart attack and the house where Lakshmi and her father stayed is also on mortgage.

Bhagat takes Lakshmi to her in-laws, but they refuse to accept her. With no option left, Bhagat takes her to his home. He admits her in a college to complete her education. Lakshmi’s husband asks her to meet him in a lodge and she refuses. Lakshmi even removes her mangala sutram saying that he is no more her husband. This helps Lakshmi to move close with Bhagat. However, her husband takes the help of a goon to teach a lesson to Bhagat but that goon gets a sound thrashing from Bhagat. Wreaked with vengeance, that goon again tries to attack him with his men and in the melee, he dies in the hands of Bhagat. The police arrest Bhagat. The police show some soft corner towards Bhagat as he killed a goon who turned a headache for them for a long time. However, Shakti (Ranadhir Gatla), the boss of that goon decide to take revenge and he wanted to do it in open. So, he makes way for the safe release of Bhagat by making his men to give a false statement in the court that the goon died in an accident.

After that, Bhagat gets selected as the IPS officer and leaves for the training at Police Academy. After he boarded the train, the goons led by Shakti stop the train and thrash Bhagat black and blue. Irked over this, Bhagat’s father attempts to kill Shakti with his country-made revolver and it fails. Soon, he dies to the bullets of Shakti. Now, Bhagat decides to eliminate Shakti legally. He pleads for help from the principal of the Police Academy to give him four trainee officers and he would eliminate Shakti. In a strategic way, Bhagat attacks Shakti and finally kills him. The film ends on a happy note, with Bhagat going for the IPS training.

PLUS:

Though the film lacks the basic logic on many an instance, the movement of the story ran on a dull note due to the director Chaitanya Dantuluri who is immature in direction. However, the storyline taken up by the director, the hidden message in the story made the film at least watchable to some extent. Debutant hero Nara Rohit had a handsome figure. Though he had good physique and watchable face, he needs to improve his body language and also the dialogue modulation. He should also improve his acting capability in order to stay in the industry. But, it appears he would suit best for family subjects. Heroine Vedika is another asset for the film. She is good at performance and cooperated well with the hero in many scenes. A couple of duets choreographed on them are melodious. She appeared very traditional in this film. The way the director picturised the action scenes is also novel and appealing.

MINUS:

The basic minus point in the film is that it completely lacked logic. It is not known, how the hero grew up and how he studied in this competitive and costly society. The accidental meeting with the heroine and taking her to his home is quite cinematic. The abrupt ending of Sayaji Shinde’s character is also not necessary. The villain’s character was also not etched properly. Moreover, a person who just qualified the Group I Mains and interview and who did not join the Police Academy, could convince its principal to give four cadets is beyond imagination. Moreover, the way how the hero taught a lesson to the villain is meagre given the villain’s portrayal in the first half. Comedy by AVS is just average. In fact, there is no trace of comedy in the film which was another big drawback in the success of the film.

REMARKS:

Though the hero had all the qualities that are needed for a hero, the zing is missing in him. There are no traces of youthfulness in him and his character was moulded as a normal fellow who just wants to take care of the society by bringing some change in the system itself. Though this message runs as an undercurrent, the lack of this youthfulness would definitely prove a drawback for the commercial success of the film. Finally, the hero would definitely suit best for family subjects instead of youthful films. Let us wait and watch whether he would get more and more chances in films especially with family backdrop and how far he would shine as a star in Tollywood.
