anadatandavamForeign bridegrooms are no better

In the backdrop of recent killing of young brides from India in foreign countries for more dowry and the rampant harassment by the husbands and in-laws demanding more dowry leading to the suicides young girls, Sujata penned a novel in Tamil called ‘Pirivom Sandippom) to give a message to the youth and their parents. Popular movie maker and star producer Aascar Ravichandran, impressed with the story, decided to give it a celluloid shape with AR Radhakrishna wielding the megaphone. With the success of ‘Happy Days’, Tamanna became popular in Telugu and hence the producer chose to release the film simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages. However, the protégé of Sankar, who had directed the movie failed to deliver the message in a correct manner.

Raghupati (Siddhartha) completes his B Tech course and is in search of jobs. He is very good at heart and ready to sacrifice anything without looking for the future. He is a good sportsman and is has good technical skills. A chief engineer, who observed his skills, decides to give off his daughter Madhu (Tamanna) to him. The parents of both Madhu and Raghu sit together and perform engagement. However, a week before the marriage date, Madhu’s parents change their mind and arrange her marriage with another youth, Radhakrishna (Rishi) who stays in the US and earns in dollars. Depressed with this sudden turn of events Raghu attempts suicide.

However, a good Samaritan saves him and Raghu’s father sends him to the US for higher studies, where Raghu meets Aruna (Rukmini). She is very good at everything. Proficient in job, good at cooking and knows the value of sentiment. Aruna proposes to Raghu, which the latter denies in the beginning. However, Raghu accepts her invitation after she arranges a video conference with his father. At this juncture, Madhu, who stays in the same locality with her husband meets Raghu. Did the love between Raghu and Madhu revived? What happened to the proposal made by Aruna to Raghu? Is Madhu happy with her husband? What are the circumstances that led to the death of Madhu. Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.

PERFORMANCE:

Tamanna gave a nice performance all through the film. However, she went a little overboard in some scenes but her action is okay once we judge her performance all through the film. Siddhartha had the similarities of Udaykiran and he needs to improve his body language further if he wants to remain in the industry. He should also concentrate more on his costumes and make up. Rishi did not have much scope to perform but is okay in the role. The character actor who played Siddhartha’s father is also a good performer. Rukmini, who played the second heroine, is good at classical dance and was able to express her feelings well. However, she needs to develop her physique a little more.

anadatandavamTECHNICAL:

Of all the departments that worked behind the screen, cinematography earns more points than others. Jeeva Shankar did complete justice to his job by capturing the scenic beauty like waterfalls and greenery in the first half in glorifying the beauty of foreign locales with his camera. The story given by Sujata, who earlier gave a blockbuster like ‘Aparichitudu’, is also okay but its narration was poor on the screen. Nothing to talk much about other departments. Editing is very weak and many scenes appeared disjointed. Dialogues are also not very impressive but are quite casual. Choreography of songs is also average. However, one duet shot on Siddhartha and Rukmini is good to watch. GV Prakash failed to deliver melodious tunes to any of the songs. Moreover, the re-recording of the film is also below average. Above all, the film lacked the sufficient gripping screenplay and the director could not portray the story on the screen properly. Moreover, many scenes appeared stretched. The first half runs below average, while it picked up to some extent in the second half.

ANALYSIS:

The film was made with an idea to give a message to the present generation youth and their parents that giving away daughters to the boys living in abroad is foolish. Looking for a better choice is no wrong but one should not do it with over-enthusiasm with a thought that their daughter would live a posh life by staying abroad. However, the director failed to convey this message properly to the audiences.
