aa okkaduA film with different and typical twists

Taking a plot by choosing some kind of disease is well known among the story writers. This time, NS Murthy chose criminal psychology and tried to develop a story based on some kind disease to maintain the suspense. However, the director ignored everything by the time he penned the climax giving a huff-huff ending to the entire story. The film makers, who produced the film, were hitherto known among the industry circles as overseas distributors, but made an attempt to make a direct entry as producer. To prevent heavy budget, they promoted Ajay, who shot into fame as villain with Vikarmarkudu, as hero and a new face Madhurima as heroine.

There is a sincere judge called Ramachandraiah (Vijaychander) who sentences a person, accused of murdering a collector, to death. But the son and wife of the accused plead with the judge for mercy goes on deaf ears. The boy develops animosity against the judge. After some time, the judge retires and his daughter Pavitra (Madhurima) becomes a criminal psychologist who assists the police during their investigation to bring out truth from the criminals by using her intelligence and science. Srikrishna (Suresh Gopi) is a popular criminal lawyer and Bongarala Bujji (Ajay) is his assistant.

He is also a devotee of a Baba, who runs an ashram. Bujji had an encounter with Pavitra and they quarrel with each other for a petty thing. Pavitra’s sister commits suicide due to the harassment by her husband and her brother-in-law goes to court for the daughter, with an intention to claim his deceased wife’s share of property. He wins the case but Pavitra did not want to return the girl to him. At this juncture, he gets killed by someone. The police first suspect Pavitra, who threatened him with dire consequences after losing the case. Later, Pavitra gets a call from an anonymous fellow that he killed him as he was troubling Pavitra. Then Pavitra complains to the ACP (Nazar) that some one who had an obsession towards her might have killed him.

When she was trying to build evidence, again he continues to call him and tries to meet her but every time the accused goes missing. One day Pavitra finds that the caller called Chanti was staying at a place and make him caught by the police. Srikrishna takes up the case and help Chanti acquitted from the case. Again, the case starts from the beginning, as to who killed Pavitra’s brother in law. Who is Bujji? Who killed Pavitra’s brother-in-law? Why the killer wants to implicate Pavitra in the case? What is the chemistry between Pavitra and Bujji? Did both of them become good friends or lovers? Answers to all these questions form part of climax.

PERFORMANCE:

Ajay, though not novice for camera, but played the hero for the first time. However, he had very little scope for performance as the director chose to run the entire film with the help of screenplay and focussed only on the heroine and the circumstances which she faced. Madhurima, though looks good, failed to reach the expectations with blank face during many scenes. Suresh Gopi, who played in a Telugu film after a long gap (Long ago, he played in Antima Teerpu), did justice to his role. Vijayachander is okay in his role. Though the director kept a separate comedy track with Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, Raghubabu, MS Narayana and others it failed to evoke any laughter.

aa okkaduTECHNICAL:

Behind the screen, music by Manisharma is average and not very impressive. Even re-recording is quite poor. Story is quite different and had lots of twists. Those who keenly watch the film could understand it properly, but those who watch the film casually can’t catch up the twists. Dialogues by Surendra Krishna were also average with not so catchy dialogues. Songs are also below the standard of an average film. However, the director NS Murthy, though a debutant dealt the subject nicely, by giving typical twists to the film. He needs to be complimented for the shrewd knowledge on psychology and other such medical science.

REMARKS:

The producers who concentrated mainly on mass elements in the film to attract the B, C centres succeeded to certain extent. However, the director’s thirst to bring out a different film by keeping several twists turned a draw back for the film, as the mass elements were totally buried. Those who like technical films would like the film. But for the average audiences who go to a theatre for mere entertainment, the film may not be advisable.
